FOOTY NEWS - posted May 6, 2007

I haven't reported on this general situation because I haven't had time, but I'm making the effort now because this news affects this website directly.

Last week, a massive series of changes was completed when the Diamond Valley FL changed it's name to the more marketable Northern FL. This is in line with similar changes made by the Eastern and Southern competitions over the last decade or so. Along with the fact that the league now expands as far north as Wallan and Kinglake.

These changes began at the end of February, when Heidelberg's failed attempt to join the Eastern FL brought to the attention of Football Victoria possible poor administration by the DVFL. It would appear that some probing by Football Victoria brought out some rather nasty stuff causing the resignation of both league president Roy Ward and league secretary Peter Floyd. As a result the whole league underwent a huge revamp in administration.

This will be interesting given the concerns raised by Heidelberg - and now if any other club had concerns they now have a voice. The season finally began this weekend (the league was the worst affected by the drought) and any past problems that have been alleged by various parties - mostly surrounding North Heidelberg but also involving a number of other clubs especially at junior level - will need to be dealt with to the satisfaction of the new administration and maybe also Football Victoria during the breaking in phase of actual operation.

I don't know the new people in charge, and how much experience they have and so forth - but this will be a key factor certainly in any future decision Heidelberg may make. I have a feeling their concerns could well be allayed and they'll stay where they are. And it's probably for the better to be honest.
