Cho Seung-Hui was the man responsible for killing 32 people on the campus of Virginia Tech University on Monday April 16. Ninemsn reported that the South Korean was a loner, who was sent to counselling after a "disturbing" creative writing piece. Nothing is known about the result of the session - and probably never will be. It was reported by the Chicago Tribune that he said "You caused me to do this," in the several-page-long note that railed against "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans." Bluntly, this is a result of a failure of assimilation - but having said that this man clearly needed help. Something had to be wrong and he needed to recognise it and do something about it. The fact that he didn't is unforgivable, and he will probably be remembered (perhaps rightly) as a terrorist. Ninemsn also noted the South Korean government expressed "indescribable surprise and shock" after the gunman was identified as one of their one. If everyone who was having counselling went out and got a gun, who's to say that they wouldn't go into a primary school or a kindergarten (which was what someone did in Scotland a while back, killing 16 4 and 5 year olds and their teacher). GUNS ARE NOT THE ANSWER AND NEVER WILL BE! It has also been speculated that Cho was Autistic. I don't believe that because generally Autistics do not have the ability to handle guns without a high standard of hand to eye co-ordination - which is contrary to an ASD diagnosis as a child. The development of such co-ordination is delayed. Cho was 23 years old. There's no way he could have been able to handle a gun at such an age - and with such accuracy as apparently it has been said he had while gunning down his 32 victims. The number of shots heard were not sprays as such. |
