When she was 12, she was one of the fastest swimmers of her age in the world. She was ranked 5 in the world when she was 15 for the 100m breaststroke. She has been in 3 Commonwealth Games and in 3 Olympics. She’s been the face of the P&O Cruises and also the face of Uncle Toby’s. She has 3 children – Jaimi, Morgan and Jett. Her successful swimming career and outgoing personality has enabled her to be a presenter on Queenland’s Wide World of Sports on channel 9 and also to promote tourist destinations in Qld. She has been involved with Uncle Toby's since 1983 and is Spokesperson for Fernwood Fitness centre. She also supports world Vision and assists orphaned children in Romania. She is the author of a series of fitness books and she is director of the Curry Kenny Group Pty Ltd with Grant and travels around Australia giving motivational talks at national and international company conferences. In addition, she is chairwoman of the National Australia Day Council, Ambassador to the Office of the Status of Women – Honouring women program and is a member of the Advisory Board for the encouragement of Philanthropy in Australia. I nominate Lisa as brain of the month. Recently, she underwent heart surgery for myocarditis. She agreed to go ahead with the sugery even though there was a chance that she might not have pulled through. A cardioverter was inserted to help with her erratic heartbeat and will be needed for the rest of her life. This is a good lesson for athletes who are pushing themselves to train as hard as they can every day. Many athletes continue to push themselves in training despite feeling tired or not very well and it can be risky. |
