I nominate for 'Brain Of The Month': John 'Sam' Newman

Yes, that Sam Newman.

The moron on the Footy Show (AFL), the one who bags whoever, who acts like a pillock, who is just out for publicity for the sake of it, him.

Now, before you take me out and lynch me, hear me out.

Sam Newman was diagnosed with prostate cancer, the most common form of cancer found in men in Australia. And then he did something amazingly brave and something that, I feel, will help save many lives:

He went public. He did not do the "poor me" line, he did not go out there and use it as an excuse to get sympathy. No; he allowed himself to be shown warts and all having the operation to get rid of the tumour, allowed himself to be seen as vulnerable quite against type and image, and then went on the Footy Show and said he felt fine.

By admitting it, by saying that some-one as blokey as Sam Newman can get this and defeat it because it was caught early enough, might be just the incentive some men out there need to at least get a check up. He has not asked for sympathy; he has just gone and done it and shared it to encourage others to get something done before it is too late. The same thing that happened with Olivia Newton-John and Kylie Minogue with their breast cancers, Sam has done for men with his own prostate cancer.
