Welcome to the rail travel and information part of Phil's World. This section provides information on all the passenger rail services across Australia, plus other public transport options that are owned by the respective state governments. It is also possible that other public transport services may be added at a later time.

City Rail services the metropolitan area of Sydney, and the immediate regional areas extending to Nowra, Goulburn, Lithgow, Scone and Dungog. This includes Newcastle and Wollongong.

Countrylink services the regional areas of New South Wales not covered by City Rail as well as services from Sydney to Melbourne and Brisbane.

Metlink covers the metropolitan area of Melbourne including Australia's only extensive tram system - and is the government authority over the only privately run suburban rail transport service in Australia.

V/Line services the regional areas of Victoria and also has services to Adelaide, Canberra and some southern New South Wales locations.

City Train services the metropolitan area of Brisbane, and the immediate regional areas extending to the Gold Coast, Rosewood, Gympie and the Sunshine Coast.

Travel Train services the remaining regional areas of Queensland.

Trans Adelaide covers the metropolitan area of Adelaide as well as the Adelaide Hills, Gawler and some southern locations.

Great Southern Railway (GSR) is a private company that is responsible for the Indian Pacific, the Ghan and the Overland trains.

Trans Perth covers the metropolitan area of Perth as well as extending to Mandurah in the south.

Trans WA covers the regional areas of Western Australia but only as far north as the Geraldton region and as far east as Kalgoorlie and Esperance.
